Las Vegas Nevada Rentals - Does anyone know North Las Vegas Eviction Laws?

las vegas home rentals

Las Vegas Nevada Rentals - Here’s the case the rental payment was sent via mail, (FIRST MISTAKE I KNOW SO PLEASE NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!!) and obviously the landlord hasn’t received it. When we went home last night the locks were changed and we weren’t able to get in. Is this legal? Can he do this? What do we need to do? We have proof of the money order but it’s in the house that we can’t get into!! Would someone please shed some light on this situation? I’ve tried searching for Las Vegas, Nevada Eviction Laws but no luck. My hubby is on his way to the courthouse now.  Is this the right way to go about it?

PLEASE! IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING NEGATIVE OR JUST TRYING TO GET 2 POINTS PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF FOLKS WITH 2 MUCH TIME ON THERE HAND THAT YOU CAN RESPOND TO. I am really looking for some good advice right now. Thank you!!!
In response to the 2nd answer, no there was not a rental balance. Rent was paid in full for last month and the money order we sent was for this month. We did not receive an eviction notice. Thank you that is where my hubby is on his way too.
Thank you all so much for your help!! This situation has been resolved and we’re back in our place. As for the landlord, he was extremely apologetic and claims he did receive the money for the rent - it was supposedly in his mailbox AFTER returning home from changing the locks! Go figure!! Las Vegas NV Rentals family you have been great! THANKS AGAIN!!

Evictions are governed by state law in Nevada. Reading between the lines, I suspect that the money order that you sent by mail was to cover rent that was already late. In that case, you probably got an eviction notice long before the locks were changed, and decided just to stay anyway. If that is so, you are screwed. If I am wrong, and you got no eviction notice, then go to the Justice’s Court for info about wrongfull eviction.

This is NOT legal. The landlord would have to give you an eviction notice which is usually about 30 days before he could even begin to do something like that. He has no right to keep you from your belongings and residence, even if you paid your rent late. Either the courthouse or the police is the way to go. Your landlord is committing a crime.

what your landlord has done is illegal it is called self-help when a landlord takes the law into his own hands and locks the tenant out from their residence without first going through the court system, meaning due process of law, notice court date etc, by changing the locks he has broken the law

go call the police the call a lock smith and have the police their when they change the locks, if the landlord tries and enter the unit without the proper notice or changes the locks again file a tress passing claim against them
