I think this depends more on what you want to do. I was in Vegas last summer for a week and rented a car. I loved it because I was able to drive out of town to see the Hoover dam and able to go to other casinos and restaurants off of the strip without having to make arrangements. You’ll also find that not only does nearly every place have plenty of parking, but that most of the time they have free valet as well (though one would be expected to tip whomever retrieved the car). On the other hand, if you are going to be staying on the strip for a long weekend and you don’t have a lot of extra cash, you may want to rely on the bus and monorail system or cabs. In this case you should also expect to do a bit more walking as you often have to walk to a bus or monorail stop. I would recommend calling the hotel where you are staying and ask what is easiest to do considering their location.

If your on the strip (MGM, Harahs, Stratosphere) they have new double decker buses that cost around $2.00 a person. They also have the Monorail that costs around $3.00 a person. You can also get daily passes that cost around $10.00 for each item. If you want to get off the strip you’ll have to take a cab. I can’t remember how much they cost exactly but I think a cab from the strip to downtown will run you about $8.00 one way. I did the car rental thing last year and unless you plan on leaving the city to go site seeing, its really not worth the expence.

Cabs are a good way to get around and so are the double decker buses on the strip. Stay away from the city bus system, takes way too long to get anyplace.

Car rental is a good option but it runs about 150 bucks for 5 days. Then you have to deal with parking and the traffic.

My wife and I normally use cabs, I like to look around so I like someone else to drive.

Have fun!

I don’t know what the best option is. If you are staying on The Strip, walking should be fine. However, if you are going to area attractions like Mount Charleston or Valley of Fire, then renting a car seems like a good option… Check out. It has a list of several transportation companies in the city.

If you are staying on the strip, you can walk just about everywhere. If you prefer, cabs are very reasonably priced there.

We ALWAYS rent a car when we got to Vegas. We are going in May and we are renting a minivan for around $200 for 5 days. There will be 6 of us so this is the best option. In the past I have rented mid size cars for around $100 for 4 days. Nearly every hotel has valet - which is free except for tip. We always tip $1.00 when we drop off and $1.00 when we pick up.

I have found the best place to rent a car is from dollar car rental.
