I have a great idea.
sell your computer, and look for a job.
Be self sufficient
The housing department:
There is a really good organizational website that can help you find the programs you might be eligible for in you area, and need.
Check out-
There are probably some federal, state, or county programs that you might not of heard of yet.I think HUD programs are included, but if not contact your local office.
Let your fingers do the walking while you still have a phone connected.
Check with your local Social Services. Also check and see if you have a Religious coalition or community action agency. While you have computer access check google for homeless prevention programs and organizations in your area. Also check Craigslist.org for a job in your area
Are you able to work? or just not working at this time?
Most states and cities have a employment services office that will help you find a place and you may be able to get rental help through DSS while you are looking. Most Social Services will assist or send you to a place that will.
I believe that HUD has some programs to help. There is a bill in congress that is to make Section 8 grants available to disabled persons but it is getting lot of opposition from the republicans. Write to your congressman and senator asking them for information on the bill and ask them to support it.
Housing Urban Developement can help you. You can meet with a counselor and fill out an application. You can be placed in apartments based on income and even get a check for your power bill.
Some lists are long, but you never know until you get there and fill out an app.
