There are many car rental agencies at the airport, and rates are very low since many people dont rent cars in Vegas. Check out dollar.com they always have good rates.

But I always do, and love it. Parking is very easy on the strip since every hotel has a massive garage and its always free. Plus you have the freedom to go off strip without having to cab it everywhere you go.

Just find any rental car counter located inside McCarran Airport. After you make the reservation they’ll shuttle you over to the lot where you can pick up your car. If you’d prefer to do it before, contact Alamo, there’s pretty cheap and work out of McCarran. Good luck.

The airport car rental agencies are open 24 hours unless they state otherwise on their website. When you try to book the car you will be asked to specify the pick-up date and time and the drop-off date and time. If that agency is closed you will find out then. I have never found one that was not open 24 hours but I know sometimes Enterprise is not a 24 hour operation in other cities.

BTW- the cost you see quoted at first is not the acutal price. You will not believe the taxes and fees that are added on. I mean it can easlily more than double the cost. Also, for some reason, Las Vegas rental cars companies prefer to rent cars for three to five days. You can certainly rent for one day but if you check the price for say, three days you may find that for not much more you can get the addtional days. In other words the second or third day are not much more. Much less than you would spend in shuttles and taxis.

Oddly, if you go more than five days they start to hit you up for additional charges. They love the 3 to 5 day rentals. I strongly recomend you consider a longer rental.

Also, be advised that Las Vegas law allows rental car companies to charge you a fee if the car is damaged while you have it (whether it is your fault or not). That fee is not covered by normal insurance. It amounts to basically the daily rental cost (minus the additional fees) for the whole time the car is in the shop. As far as I know the only credit cards that extend this additional coverage are Amex and Visa but you should check.

Also, if you have car insurance on your own car, make sure it includes cars you rent. Most comprehensive coverage does but simple liability often does not. The car agencies offer additional coverage that is pricey. Make sure you know if you need it or not.

I have rented many cars in Vegas from several major rental agencies and find no appreicable difference. Some have special benefits if you are Gold Club members or whatever. Some offer discounts for AAA membership and other groups.

Below is a handy map of the Strip area. Often the Strip traffic is very bad. Knowing how to use the back streets gets you around much quicker. BTW-the map is a bit dated. It still shows the Aladdin which is not Planet Hollywood (PW) and it does not show the new Palazzo between the Venetian and Wynn hotels.

If you choose to rent, email me for a little secret information about getting around by car.

Good Luck!

All rentals are available at McCarren to pick the price you want and make it online such as Enterprise. But renting the first day may not be as good as idea, rather two days, since your second day is a FULL day.

Here are some tips on renting cars in Las Vegas.

I always rent a car in Las Vegas because it’s so cheap. My wife and I are going to Vegas in the beginning of June. We will have a full size car from Dollar for $150 for the week including all taxes. Parking is easy and free at all the casinos and when your out drinking take a cab from Hotel to Hotel because they are cheap too. The best part of having a rental is that you can drive to Hoover Dam (30 minutes) Red Rock Canyon (45 minutes) Valley of Fire (about an hour) or even downtown or Outlet mall (about 15 minutes) when you want and on your own time.

I would suggest Dollar since they seem to be the cheapest but they do have long check in lines. Thrifty is another cheap rental option. But even the more expensive one like Avis and Hertz are reasonable in Vegas.
